Guitar sense and sensibility

The Museum Sessions

The Museum Sessions

Today, a Museum is valuated, mainly, by its capacity to reproduce or even create magical atmospheres. Museums are a very special, virtual places, were ine can travel along the time, and stop no in a concrete minute, but in a unmaterial, magical atmosphere, listening the best of an age.

And that’s the proposal of Guitar Sessions. A little concert, about half and hour long, which will include a selection of pieces that peoples likes to play and listen once, in a place such this…

I have a long, and nice experience in this field. As you know, I like a lot this combination of music, architecture and painting. Here you can see some chraming Museums

Cau Ferrat

The wonderful house of unclassificable Catalan Art Nouveau painter and dramatist Santiago Rusiñol, who had a considerable influence in “Modernisme”. The Cau Ferrat (in Catalan, Ironed Terrier) is located by the sea, in Sitges, a well know beach hotspot.

Museum collection includes names as El Greco, Picasso and Zuloaga, and a large number of iron works. If you ever visit Sitges, don’t forget to visit it! .

Here you can see the Cau Ferrat kitchen, as the house was actually Mr. Rusiñol home. His neighbour was another great painter, Ramon Casas, but unfortunatily, his home remains empty.

In 1995 flautist Elena Sentís and myself formed a duo named “Cau Ferrat”, as we start with a series of concert in this very unusual house. Listeners were gifted, once the music finished, with a cup of “malvasía”, a local sweet wine that was much popular at the begining of XX century, and wich has becoming itself like a Museum object…

Cal Negre

A spectacular building designed by Josep María Jujol,

We were lucky playing in this surprising, absolutely unexpected building which today is Modernisme interpretation center, but that in the past was home of a wealthy family.

Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona

This building, by architect Josep Lluís Sert was thinked originally for hosting the Joan Miró’s collection, and it’s specially ligthing. We played amplified in the yard at tea time some pieces, giving visitors sound images about the time that the artist lived.
Tea, served in original “mironian” cups, was an ideal companion for moments like this …
