First, let me introduce myself: Montserrat Ardèvol and the music that I play

montse_sola_bn.jpg

I was born in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain)
I passed my High Diploma in Guitar (in Spanish Título Superior de Guitarra) in 1992, at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona, at that moment a reference in guitar teaching. My professor was J.L. Lopátegui.

I won the Honors prize in 6th and 8th levels; in the 8th level, playing J.S Bach’s Partita, actually a difficult piece! After, I specialized in baroque and romantic music in Madrid’s Conservatory, with José Miguel Moreno, perhaps the world’s best guitarist of our time.

I also had the privilege of learning from several relevant guitar masters such as William Waters, Hopkinson Smith, Manuel Barrueco, José Tomás and David Rusell, and two ladies in this world of men, Belgian guitarist Godelieve Mondem and Argentinian María Luisa Anido. Another privilege was to have a masterclass with Narciso Yepes, just two years before his death.

I have been teaching guitar since 1982, in many Conservatories and music schools, as well as at the prestigious Escola del Palau de la Música de Barcelona, which is located just in front of the emblematic Palau de la Musica. At present, I teach guitar at the Corvera de Asturias Music School, near the city of Avilés.

I’ve been a performer since 1980, and in this time, I have played as a soloist and in chamber groups with musicians such as Salvador Brotons or the Lysy Cameratta. Ten years ago, flautist Elena Sentís amd I formed the Cau Ferrat duo, basically devoted to “Art Nouveau” age music. We have had the luck to give our performances in several “Modernista” scenarios like the Cal Negre, the Cau Ferrat or the Casa Elizalde.

Other activities have been related to Literature, like recordings for theater pieces such as Chejov’s “Uncle Vanya” in the Greek Teather Festival of Barcelona (2000), or accompaniment in poetry events as the Setmana de Poesía de Barcelona. I have a special memory of Tarrega’s “Endecha Oremus” sounding as a background music for Palau i Fabre verses.

Sometimes, I have included in my repertory some pieces performed with the romantic and baroque guitar. I especially like Santiago de Murcia’s “Fandango” and Gaspar Sanz’s “Lantururú”, “Canarios” and the “Miñona de Cataluña”.

    Hi Montserrat,
I wrote to you before. I hope you still remember me. I visited your website today and found all your teaching videos very, very helpful, -1st class. You are a great teacher and a talented guiatrist who produces a lovely tone with a beautiful expression. Even you chromatic exercise sounds nice :) I would like to send more than…1 cup of coffee to you as a token of my appreciation for your kind help but Paypal accepts only $3 US per entry. I am in Australia and I have to pay a fee for each transaction up to $4 dollars. Is there any way that I can pay $20 US in just one transaction?

I love your music and thank you so much for sharing your talent and expertise.

    Best wishes,
    Mel

  2. hank you very much Melanie!

Of course, your words are the best payment for doing this work.
Specially, I’m happy as you found it helpful! It is not easy to think about how to teach on internet, as everybody has a different level, a diferent aptitude…
In other I’ve changed my “pay me a coffe”, now you can put any quantity (I hope…)
You can also be registered as a user in “meta”.
I hope you are enjoying the summer, bcose here, in North Spain, it is a very, very cold and stormy winter!
    greetings

    Hi Montse,

Sorry to trouble you again, I cannot make payment because there is only Spanish language on PayPal page. I do not understand a thing and also cannot fill in my details.

I know you are very busy -so when you have a bit of time, please help to get English language on that page.

    Thank you Montse,

    Best wishes,

    Mel

    Hi Montse,

After receiving your most recent email, I visited this website again to pay via PayPal but…believe it or not? -there is no English version. I had tried to click on every ‘coffee cup’ symbol to get to PayPal page, but there is only Spanish version of PayPal.

You must have ‘headaches’ with this problem of mine. I will visit your website again until I can transfer the money over. It’s not much, it’s only a token of my appreciation for your kindness to share your beautiful music and your deep knowledge of guitar playing. I hope you will feel like receiving a little ‘gift’ from your admiring fan :)

My Tygotc is good -Yes! I take my guitar out of its case every night, when I can have time for myself. I must say that your version of Chromatic Scale exercise has helped me to train my left hand to be closed to the finger-board and keep those fingers still [not jumping around when I play] -this will be a good habit for me to progress with my learning. I love your De Falla’s Tombeau….de Debussy. It’s so well played and expressed.

You will hear from me again,

Best regards from your new fan

It is possible to pay Montse using only her email address. Just go to your Paypal account and select the send money option. You can send any type of currency listed there. I chose to send US Dollars because I believe Montse can convert this to Euros easily. You can, however, chose to send Euros directly if that is your wish. Once I decided on an amount to send I simply added her email address of montseardevol@arrakis.es as the recipient and selected payment for goods/services in order to complete the transaction.

  6. Montserrat:
I really really like you. I spend hours just watching you play. I am back into playing and learning classical guitar because of you. I would like to meet you in person. I travel every year to Valencia and sometimes to Andalucia. I think you are in the north. Well, I will see. Please keep doing what you are doing. It is wonderful to know someone with such a passion to play.

Un saludo y siento no haber mirado antes.

  10. Do you know William is now? I was at school with him when he learnt the guitar – Saleaian College in Chertsey.

  14. Hi Jacquie, and thanks for your kindly comment!
Don’t worry about payment, I now that sometimes is difficult to use Paypal. Most important is that TYGOTC and other stuff have been useful for you.
I’m thinking about to try another system to get some money, but for the moment…
Perhaps will be better idea to organize a summer course here in Spain!
