Alvarez, a Luthier in Madrid
These days I payed a visit to ourfriend Juan Alvarez, one of the craftsmen that are maintaining the most renowned industry of Madrid city: Spanish guitars.
Alvarez is one of those people who continue to work as people did a century ago, a true artist working in the heart of a huge, extremly noisy city. But also very close to Museo del Prado, wich sure has some influence…
You can see here the craftsmen workshop, with Juan Alvarez (dressed in blue), the composer Alfonso Casanovas and myself.
Now, I play with one of his guitars…

hi there, just read your article about alvarez in madrid. i have an old alvarez guitar and wondered if mr alvarez junior provided a restoration service of one of his late father guitars? do you know a website for alkvarez please. i perform with period guitars, and look forward to the alvarez guitar joining in with my bernabe, garcia, paramount, and other guitars in my stage set. cheers, martin gaughan roberts.
