Tips to improve your guitar playing… also in 2009
Once New Year passed it’s time to forget good intentions and actually start a series of good habits.
Here you have seven plus one suggestions
1 Don’t be in a hurry with the guitar. Remember that this is a long, long journey. Enjoy every step!
2 Reserve, at least, half an hour every day to play. For a guistarist, perseverance is not a plus, but a real need.
3 Begin every day by slowly playing a series of scales. Then, increase speed progresively.
4 Prior to playing a piece, listen to different versions of it. This will help you to find your own style.
5. Record you own performance and listen to it many times. This will help you to be objectivive about your playing and problam areas.
6. Once you can play it at a certain level, let the piece rest for some time! In a month or more, the piece will mature within you.
7. Design a little repertoire including pieces at your actual level. Then play a little concert, a session for your friends.
8. … and the last one, follow MGS!.

Hi Montse, great advice, though myself I start off with my latest study piece or something I simply enjoy playing. I’ve got well past the self discipline stage which is probably still neccessary, but if I began with scales I would not get very far, as it’s something I’ve never really enjoyed doing, sadly for me.
Segovia once said “it’s better to be a pupil at 90 than a master at 14″. The joy is in the learning…
Thanks for all the tips. If you are wanting to learn how to play a guitar then you need to fallow these steps.
